Haemosu then follows their dragon carriage to Habaek’s land, where Haemosu requests permission to marry Yuhwa. When Haemosu encounters Habaek’s three daughters by the waters of Ungsim Pond, he seduces them with a beautiful copper house, and forces the oldest daughter Yuhwa into intimacy. He attended to state affairs in the morning and ascended to the heavens in the evening, and people called him Cheonwangrang (Celestial King). He wore a hat made of crow feathers on his head and carried on his waist the dragon light sword (yonggwanggeom). Haemosu descended on a carriage pulled by five dragons, accompanied by a hundred men riding swans. Jumong is born to Haemosu and Yuhwa when Cheonje (Celestial Emperor) sends his prince Haemosu to Buyeo’s ancient capital, the territory of King Buru who, at the command of the Celestial Emperor, founded East Buyeo upon moving his state to Gaseopwon by the East Sea (Donghae). Mythological records on Jumong can be found in a number of books, among which the accounts in Gusamguksa (Old History of the Three Kingdoms) and“ Goguryeobongi (Records of Goguryeo) ”are most detailed and richest in mythical elements, bringing together many different versions of the tale to form a new and magnificent narrative of national foundation. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future. The myth “Jumongsinhwa” narrates the story of the birth and life of Jumong, the founder of Goguryeo. When the mother arrived home, she found her baby healthy and laughing in its new cradle. Throw this monster into the brook!” Sobbing, the mother did as she was told, and a great howl bellowed from beneath the bridge, like the howling of wolves and bears. The traveller said “Your child is at home in a new cradle behind the chest in the side room. To cut a long story short, on route the infant became heavy and monstrous, and a traveller yelled out that the woman was carrying the devil on her back. It was believed that a visit to this spring would either restore the child back to health, or he would die within nine days. The mother was told to go to Neuhausen and give her baby water from the Cyriak Spring. Once upon a time, at Hessloch near Odernheim, a servant and the cook of a clergyman were living together as man and wife – but their newborn baby would not grow or gain weight. Hold on, if you’re wondering what the heck we mean by changelings, let’s tackle that question with another German myth.
